A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was the first Sondheim musical to be performed at the theatre, directed by Artistic Director, Ian Talbot. It starred Roy Hudd and Susie Blake, along with Fiona Dunn who would return to the theatre in later years as Resident Director.
