About Our Heritage

The award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is a London landmark – a firm fixture of summer in the city, providing a cultural hub in the beautiful surroundings of a Royal Park.

This digital archive gives access to the theatre’s rich history for the first time. With over 80 years and 300 productions to cover, this archive will be added to as resources become available.

We’re taking a look at some of the truly despicable characters who have appeared on the Open Air Theatre stage...

Villain of the high-seas Captain Hook appeared in 2015’s production of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan (reimagined in a WWI setting by directors Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel). 2017’s Oliver Twist created for everyone aged six and over saw Bill Sikes terrifying children. Who could forget the mean, green, monster that was Vicky Vox as Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors (2018)? And our most recent collaboration with the English National Opera, Hansel and Gretel (2019) saw children being trapped by a gingerbread Witch!

Our NEW musical for 2020 – 101 Dalmatians – will see the infamous puppy-snatcher Cruella de Vil join this band of villains!
