David William

David William was Artistic director of the theatre between 1962-66 alongside David Conville who was Managing Director at the time; together they founded the New Shakespeare Company. During his time at the theatre he directed many of Shakespeare's greatest works, including A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing. In 1968 he moved to Canada, ending eight years with the Open Air Theatre. He returned in 1982 to direct George Bernard Shaw’s The Admirable Bashville and then in 1983 to direct the theatre’s first original musical, Bashville.
